About me

I first got interested in web design while undertaking my Advanced GNVQ in IT at Exeter College. We did one unit on HTML (only due to the College having trouble sourcing kit for a different unit) and I found myself hooked on it from day one.

After learning the basic mechanics of HTML in college I immediately went to WH Smith and bought HTML for Complete Idiots and worked through the tutorials in that, eventually producing a website for my Young Farmers Club.

After college I took a job with a local computer firm as an Apple technician (that’s Apple computers…). It paid a meagre £6000 and even though they paid me that poor a wage, the company still went into administration in January 1999, leaving me unemployed. After a couple of months of not getting any jobs I applied for a friend spotted an advert in the local paper. Devon County Council were seeking a Web Development Assistant for their education department. Within an hour my application form was in and I got an interview. By the time I got home from this interview I had a message waiting for me saying I’d got the job!

Over the course of the next ten years (TEN YEARS!!) I have been working at the Council as one of the Council’s sole web designers. We are now a team of three dedicated web development bods, me being line manager to two assistants.

In my time with the council I have designed and built over 200 websites for schools around the south west of England as well as various other education based organisations and for the Council itself.

In my free time I occasionally do freelance work for varied clients, some of which can be seen above (click on the numbers on the right to see more).

Other than my work, I’m also a keen golfer (17 handicap), photographer and Xbox addict.
